Tile Painting Workshop in Peso da Régua

Our gathering will commence at 9:30 am at the Marta Barata Studio, the dedicated Shop and School in Peso da Régua, where the tile painting workshop is hosted.

Tracing back to the 15th century, the art of Al-zuleique became prominent in Portugal due to Arabic influences. This exquisite style was soon integrated into numerous convents, palaces, residences, and gardens, evolving into a defining aspect of Portuguese architectural heritage. Prior to starting the painting process, we will explore a curated collection of tiles showcasing various designs: figurative, ornamental, and patterned.

Following our insights into the heritage of this artistic technique, we will dive into the practical session. Once you complete your tile creation, it will undergo firing in the kiln, marking the conclusion of the workshop. Should you choose, we offer the option to ship your finished tiles directly to your home.
