Five-Day Itinerary from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap

Day 1: Phnom Penh - Kompong Cham

Our journey initiates in Phnom Penh, where we will embark on a scenic one-hour drive through the picturesque Cambodian countryside to arrive at the port. Here, we'll board a traditional boat to sail towards Silk Island. Immerse yourself in the local culture as residents demonstrate the intricate process of silk production, from nurturing silkworms to weaving on venerable looms.

Once back on land, we will proceed to Kompong Cham. Following a two-hour drive, a guided exploration of the city awaits, alongside a taste of local dishes during lunch. The highlight of the afternoon will be our visit to the Wat Nokor Temple, followed by the Phnom Pros Monastery. Here, we will have the opportunity to interact with the resident monks and ascend to the hilltop pagoda of Phnom Srey.

Before retiring for the night at our hotel in Kompong Cham, we will visit the Keung Kok fabric factory to gain insight into traditional weaving techniques.

Day 2: Kompong Cham - Kompong Thom

On the second day, our morning starts with breakfast at the hotel in Kompong Cham. Afterward, we will depart for a three-hour journey through the lush central landscapes of Cambodia, adorned with vibrant rice terraces. Upon reaching Kompong Thom, we will delve into the local culture, stroll through its vibrant streets, and savor lunch at a local eatery.

Rejuvenated, we'll continue our exploration at the Prasar Sambor Prei Kuk Archaeological Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here, ancient red brick temples await discovery amidst the thriving jungle. By late afternoon, we will return to Kompong Thom for an overnight stay.

Day 3: Kompong Thom - Siem Reap

Following breakfast at the hotel, we'll visit the central market of Kompong Thom, where local products abound. Afterward, we will bid farewell to Kompong Thom and embark on a three-hour journey towards Siem Reap. We'll take a break for lunch and stop to explore the enchanting village of Kompong Kleang, located by Tonlé Sap Lake. Experience the unique sight of stilted houses floating on the water before continuing our journey to Siem Reap.

Day 4: Siem Reap - Angkor Archaeological Park

Our fourth day begins with a hearty breakfast, followed by an excursion to Angkor, the heart of the Khmer Empire. Inside the archaeological park, we'll uncover the remnants of a civilization that thrived from the 9th to the 15th centuries, hidden among the jungle’s embrace. This historic site serves as an inspiration for films, including Tomb Raider.

During our time at Angkor, we will visit the remote temple of Ta Nei, followed by a lunch break. Afterward, we’ll venture into Angkor Thom, marveling at landmarks such as the South Gate, the Terrace of the Elephants, and the Royal Palace. We’ll also explore several temples, including Bayon, Baphuon, Preah Palilay, and Phimeanakas.

To cap off a memorable day, we'll witness the sunset over Angkor Wat Temple before returning to Siem Reap for an overnight stay.

Day 5: Siem Reap - Angkor Archaeological Park - Siem Reap

Our final day begins before dawn, departing Siem Reap at 4:30 am to witness a breathtaking sunrise at Angkor Wat, illuminating this remarkable ancient structure.

After the sunrise, we will continue our exploration of the Angkor Archaeological Park at Preah Khan temple, where tree roots weave through its dilapidated stones. Post breakfast, we will visit the temples of Neak Pean and Ta Som, further enriching our understanding of Angkor Wat.

After lunch near the temple, the afternoon remains free for further exploration of Angkor Wat, where you can admire its captivating engravings depicting religious narratives. At day’s end, we will return to Siem Reap, concluding our tour.
