Immerse yourself in Thailand's rich cultural, historical and architectural heritage on this day trip to the ancient capital city: Ayutthaya.

Description

At the indicated time, we'll meet at the National Stadium BTS Station. Then we'll make our way to the Bang Pa-In Royal Palace in an air-conditioned vehicle, arriving at 10 am. The former Thai King's summer royal residence is an incredible riverside palace complex with remarkable architecture. The golden pagodas and serene pools offer a glimpse into the region’s glorious past.

Next, we'll continue on to the ruins of Ayutthaya. This historic city was founded in 1350 and served as the second capital of the Siamese Kingdom. It was attacked by the Burmese army in 1767, who burned the city to the ground and forced its inhabitants to abandon it. The city was never rebuilt, and the ancient structures that remain are a gateway to the past! The many tree roots growing around scattered Buddha heads only add to the historical charm of this unique destination.

After exploring this ancient city, we'll stop for lunch in a local restaurant to refuel our energy. We'll have several hours to explore fascinating ancient religious sites, including Wat Mahathat, where a large Buddha head sits nestled between ancient tree roots. We'll also visit Wat Mongkol Borpit, known for its enormous seated Buddha statue. Then we'll continue on to see Wat Phra Sri Sanphet, the holiest and most important complex of the ancient Thai capital.

Lastly, we'll explore Wat Chaiwatthanaram, known for its towering stone Thai Buddhist chedi monument. This site is one of the main reasons Ayutthaya was awarded UNESCO status in 1991.

Finally, with your camera roll full of photos, we'll head back to Bangkok.
