Hiking and Rappelling in Salto del Chintaguay
You will be picked up at your chosen time from your hotel in Pica and taken in a 4x4 vehicle to the Salto del Chintaguay. This gorge, located in the Tamarugal Pampa within the Atacama Desert, offers captivating scenery.
Initially, the 4x4 will take you to a hilltop for panoramic views of the Atacama Desert. Afterward, you will embark on a medium-difficulty trekking route through the Salto del Chintaguay gorge, covering approximately 2 kilometers (1.25 miles).
The route includes an ascent of 70 meters (230 feet) to a viewpoint with scenic views. During this break, there will be a snack comprised of an energy bar, chocolate, nuts, and fruit, with options for tea or coffee.
Post-snack, the trek continues along the gorge's edge, featuring several pre-Columbian pictograms. After completing the hike, you will return to the starting point and then travel back to your hotel in Pica, arriving four hours after pickup.
Add a Rappelling Experience
You can enhance your experience by booking the option for rappelling in Salto del Chintaguay. This includes the hiking route followed by a 7-meter (23 feet) rappel.
A brief walk along the ravine leads to another rappel of 5 meters (16.5 feet). The tour concludes with viewing the pre-Columbian pictographs before returning to your hotel in Pica, arriving five hours after pickup.
