Hiking and Rappelling in Salto del Chintaguay

Pick-up will be at your chosen time from your hotel in Pica. We will use a 4x4 vehicle to reach Salto del Chintaguay in the Tamarugal Pampa. The tour begins with a ride to a hilltop for panoramic views of the Atacama Desert.

We will then embark on a medium-difficulty hike of approximately 2 kilometers (1.25 miles). The hike includes an ascent of 70 meters (230 feet) to a viewpoint with further views of the gorge, followed by a snack of an energy bar, chocolate, nuts, and fruit, along with a drink of tea or coffee.

After resting, we will proceed along the gorge, observing pre-Columbian pictograms before returning to the starting point. The return to your hotel will take place approximately four hours after pickup.

Add a Rappelling Experience

For an enhanced experience, you may book the rappelling option. The itinerary will start with the hike, followed by a rappel of 7 meters (23 feet). A short walk along the ravine's edge will precede a second rappel of 5 meters (16.5 feet). After viewing the pictographs, we will return to your hotel in Pica five hours after pickup.
