Description
The Chateau de Pierrefonds, originally a 12th-century fort, was reconstructed in the 14th century by King Charles VI to symbolize his power. By booking this ticket, you can explore the interior of one of Oise's best-preserved monuments. The ticket includes a leaflet in English and other languages for a self-paced visit, allowing you to appreciate each room's details. The Chateau showcases various paintings, jewels, and vintage furniture from different historical periods, including those from the Middle Ages to the time of Napoleon Bonaparte, who visited frequently. The restoration was commissioned by Napoleon III and executed by architect Viollet-le-Duc.
Additionally, the Chateau has served as a filming location for television series and films such as The Story of Joan of Arc and The Man in the Iron Mask, featuring Leonardo DiCaprio.
Opening hours
The Chateau de Pierrefonds is open as follows:
May 2 - September 4: 9:30 am - 6 pmSeptember 5 - April 30: 10 am - 5:30 pm
On December 24 and 31, the monument closes at 3:30 pm. Last entry is 1 hour before closing time. These hours are subject to change. Note that the Salle des Preuses is currently closed for maintenance.
Free admission
Admission to the Chateau de Pierrefonds is free for:
Youth from the EU aged 18 to 25.Children under 18 years old, regardless of nationality.
To obtain free admission, visit the site's ticket office and present a certifying document. Admission is also free on the first Sunday of the month from January to March, November to December, and the third weekend of September.
