Matera Day Trip

After meeting at the established point, we will travel by bus to Matera, known for its picturesque landscape.

Upon arrival, we will embark on a guided tour of Matera's historic center, one of the oldest in the world, with its Sassi districts, inhabited since the Paleolithic era.

We will explore the neighborhoods of Sasso Barisano and Sasso Caveoso, discussing the city’s evolution, including the displacements of the '50s and its current renaissance.

During the tour, we will view significant Baroque temples such as the Church of San Francesco d'Assisi, the Church of Santa Chiara, and the Matera Cathedral in Apulian Romanesque style.

After a short break for lunch, guests may choose to visit notable rock churches of Matera (not included), including the Church of Santa Maria di Idris, the Church of Santa Lucia alle Malve, and the Church of San Pietro Barisano.

Following the excursion, we will return by bus to the starting point after a twelve-hour day.
