Visit one of the most well-known caves in Belize on our Actun Tunichil Muknal Cave Day Trip from Placencia. You'll discover the history concealed within this fascinating Maya archaeological site.

Actun Tunichil Muknal Cave Day Trip

At 6 am, we'll set off from your hotel in Placencia and head to the Tapir Mountain Nature Reserve. Here, we'll find Belize's most visited Mayan cave: the Actun Tunichil Muknal Cave, also known as the ATM cave.

Upon arrival, we'll venture into these underground passages and discover their secrets, including the remains of various human skeletons believed to have been used in Mayan rituals. Some experts suggest these bones were sacrifices in honor of the deity Chaac.

We will continue our visit through the Actun Tunichil Muknal Cave to see the remains of a sacrificed adolescent known as the Crystal Maiden. The Maiden's bones have crystallized over the centuries, giving them a glowing appearance that contributes to their ominous nickname. We will also discuss potential secrets related to this body.

After our exploration of the ATM Cave, we'll visit a local restaurant for a traditional lunch featuring specialty dishes from the Yucatan Peninsula, which combines Mayan cuisine with typical Caribbean dishes.

We will return to your hotel in Placencia, arriving at 5:30 pm.
