Tour Details
At the indicated time, we'll meet at the ruins of the Douglas C-47B Dakota aircraft to start our guided tour of the underground Željava Air Base. The tour includes exploration of the interior of the aircraft, followed by a visit to the runways, reflecting on the experiences of pilots during the Yugoslav wars.
This air base, built in the '60s, is located in the heart of the Plješevica Mountain on the border with Bosnia and was designed to withstand nuclear attacks. It is noted as the largest underground air and military base in the former Yugoslavia and one of the oldest in Europe.
During our tour, we'll navigate through the tunnels that extend approximately 1.8 miles (3 kilometers), providing insight into the life at the base during its operational period until its destruction.
Two and a half hours later, we'll conclude the activity at the starting point.
