Excursion to Villa El Chocón + Paleontological Museum

Fascinated by the world of dinosaurs? On this excursion to Villa El Chocón, we'll visit its famous Ernesto Bachmann Paleontological Museum, which houses the skeletons of gigantic prehistoric animals!

Description

At 9 am, we'll pick you up at your hotel in Neuquén and drive for about an hour south towards Villa El Chocón. Upon arrival, we'll tour the town, starting at the viewpoint of Lake Exequiel Ramos Mejía, where you can see the dam that generates hydroelectric power for much of Argentina.

Next, we will explore the center of Villa El Chocón, where you will have free time. Optionally, you can take a guided excursion to Cañadón Escondido for a trekking route through a unique ravine.

We will reconvene for a guided tour of the Ernesto Bachmann Paleontological Museum, featuring the skeleton of Giganotosaurus Carolini, the largest known prehistoric carnivore. After the museum, you will have an hour of free time to have lunch in El Chocón. We will return to your hotel in Neuquén, arriving around 3 pm.

Villa El Chocón & Plaza Huincul (8 hours)

To extend the excursion, we will follow the same itinerary. After lunch in Villa El Chocón, we will continue to Plaza Huincul to visit the Carmen Funes Paleontological Museum, which displays the skeleton of Argentinosaurus Huinculensis, the largest herbivore found. After the museum visit, we will stop at an agritourism center for a snack. Finally, we will conclude the excursion by returning to Neuquén, arriving at your hotel by 5 pm.
