Murgia Bike Tour

On this bike tour of Murgia, we'll combine sport and tourism and enjoy the nature of the Apulia region. We'll cycle through the landscapes of this plateau and visit the famous castle of Garagnone.

At the scheduled time, we'll meet at Strada Provinciale 230, next to the Poggiorsini gas station. We'll hop on our bikes and start a biking tour to discover the Murgia region's beautiful landscapes.

We'll start the bike tour in Murgia at Jazzo Filieri, an ancient sheepfold at the foot of the Costone Murgiano hill. We'll admire the local vegetation and wildlife and discover the contrasts between higher altitude areas and the plains.

As we cycle, we'll encounter platforms once used by U.S. military forces for testing launch weapons of mass destruction, operational until 1963. We'll discuss this location's connection to the Cold War.

Continuing along the Murgia plateau, we'll see farms and wheat fields until we reach the Rocca del Garagnone. The ruins of this fortress blend into the limestone of the peak, which has earned it the nickname of the 'invisible castle'. We'll provide insights into the history of this medieval fortress of Norman origin.

After a three-hour experience, we'll conclude the bike tour at the starting point.
