Travel back in time to one of the most tragic chapters in Italy's history with this visit to the towns of Pompeii and Herculaneum. You'll have the opportunity to hike to the highest point of Mount Vesuvius, the most notorious active volcano in the region of Campania.
Discover the Tragedy
This tour expresses how the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD devastated Pompeii and Herculaneum, two prosperous cities of their age. We will meet at Via Roma and travel by minibus to Mount Vesuvius, Herculaneum, and finally Pompeii.
Mount Vesuvius, reaching over 1000 metres (3280 feet) in height, offers striking views. Upon arrival, an expert volcanologist will explain the volcanic activity and the events leading to the catastrophic eruption. Afterward, you will have free time to climb to the summit and enjoy the views of the Gulf of Naples and the Sorrento Coast.
Your visit will continue in Herculaneum, where you'll have time to explore the site at your own pace and walk the streets of this Ancient Roman city. Notable sites include houses, pubs, temples, and the forum with mosaics found in Neptune and Amphitrite's house.
Following Herculaneum, you will visit the World Heritage Site of Pompeii. An audioguide in English will assist you in discovering the secrets of this once-great city, destroyed by Vesuvius. You will walk the cobblestoned streets, view significant buildings such as the House of the Faun and the Basilica, and observe the plaster casts of the victims.
The tour will conclude after 8 hours at the Pompeii starting point.
