Furnas Day Trip + Gorreana Tea Plantations

The picturesque town of Furnas, in the heart of Sao Miguel's countryside, is a hotbed of volcanic activity. Why not come and discover its breathtaking surroundings?

Description

We'll meet on Avenida João Bosco Mota Amaral in Ponta Delgada, Sao Miguel's capital, and set off along the island's southern coastline. Our first stop will be in the coastal town of Vila Franca do Campo, where we can admire the Islet of Vila Franco do Campo, a large volcanic caldera located off the town's coast.

Our route continues inland, characterized by constant volcanic activity. We will visit the calderas and lagoon of Furnas to understand the origins of the various volcanic vents.

After gaining volcanic knowledge, we will enjoy a traditional lunch at a nearby restaurant. Following lunch, we'll head north to visit the Gorreana tea plantations, one of the Azores Island's renowned tea manufacturers. Here, we will sample some of their famous teas to appreciate their aromas and flavors with a hint of sweetness. Finally, we'll return to Ponta Delgada.
