Description

At the specified time, we will meet at João Bosco Mota Amaral Avenue in Ponta Delgada and board a minibus that will take us to the island's west side. From there, we will commence a hike to reach Lagoa do Fogo, the most iconic landmark of Sao Miguel.

The hike covers a total distance of 7.5 miles (12 km), leading us to a lake situated in the crater of the Água de Pau volcano. This tour will take us through eucalyptus forests, where we will discuss the local vegetation and wildlife, including plants native to regions like New Zealand.

Midway through, we will reach a levada that leads to the edge of Lagoa do Fogo, offering stunning views of this remarkable volcanic lagoon and a perfect perspective of the village of Vila Franca do Campo and its famous islet.

The lagoon's shore will be an ideal spot for a well-deserved picnic lunch. After lunch, we will descend through an area of pastures and vegetation.

On our return to Ponta Delgada, we will make a stop at Agua D'Alto beach as a concluding highlight. Finally, we will return to the starting point, wrapping up the 7-hour tour.
