Nevado del Huila 5-day Hiking Tour
Day 1: Popayán - Belalcázar
Pick up from your hotel in Popayán at 1 pm and drive to Belalcázar. After approximately a five-hour drive, arrive at the hotel for leisure.
Day 2: Belalcázar - Nevado del Huila
Early morning start for the trekking route to Nevado del Huila volcano. First, we approach the indigenous reserve of Caloto Wila at 2100 meters (6889 feet) and meet the local Nasa community, enjoying a traditional breakfast. At 8 am, begin the ascent to Dublin, the last point accessible by car. Hiking along the north side of the volcano leads to a moor where we will set up camp at an altitude of 3600 meters (11811 feet).
Day 3: Nevado del Huila
Start at 6 am with breakfast. Continue the demanding climb via high mountain routes, reaching Las Torres for an overnight camp.
Day 4: Nevado del Huila
After breakfast, we ascend to the highest point of the volcano at 4800 meters (15748 feet). Those wishing to attempt the summit must have experience and equipment: ice axes, crampons, and harnesses. Others will enjoy views of the volcano and its glacier. Afternoon descent to base camp for dinner.
Day 5: Nevado del Huila - Belalcázar
Descend to Dublin where the vehicle will return to Caloto Wila for lunch and experience sharing before heading back to Belalcázar. The tour concludes with a stop in Tóez for thermal baths, finishing by 6 pm.
Accommodation
The tour includes two nights in an inn in Belalcázar in shared rooms for 4 people. Participants must bring tents and sleeping bags for camping during the ascent.
