Nevado del Huila 5-day Hiking Tour

Day 1: Popayán - Belalcázar

We'll pick you up from your hotel in Popayán at 1 pm and drive to Belalcázar. After approximately a five-hour drive, we'll arrive at the hotel where we'll stay, and you'll have the rest of the day at your leisure.

Day 2: Belalcázar - Nevado del Huila

We'll wake up early in the morning and start our trekking route to the Nevado del Huila volcano. First, we'll approach the indigenous reserve of Caloto Wila at 2100 metres (6889 feet) above sea level. After a traditional breakfast, we'll start the ascent to a point called Dublin, the last place accessible by car. Here, the hiking adventure begins!

From Dublin, we'll walk along the north side of the Nevado del Huila volcano until we reach a moor, where we'll set up camp and spend the night at an altitude of 3600 metres (11811 feet).

Day 3: Nevado del Huila

We'll start the day at 6 am with breakfast and take a high mountain route for the second day of climbing. By midday, we'll reach Las Torres, where we'll camp for the night.

Day 4: Nevado del Huila

After breakfast, we'll leave for the highest part of the Nevado del Huila volcano at 4800 metres (15748 feet). Climbers should have experience and equipment including ice axes, crampons, and harnesses. Others can enjoy breathtaking views of the volcano and its glacier. In the afternoon, we'll descend to the base camp for dinner.

Day 5: Nevado del Huila - Belalcázar

On the last day, we'll descend to Dublín, where a vehicle will take us back to Caloto Wila for lunch before returning to Belalcázar. We'll stop in Tóez for thermal baths and finish the tour at 6 pm in Belalcázar.

Accommodation

This tour includes two nights' accommodation in an inn in Belalcázar in rooms shared between 4 people. For the ascent of the Nevado del Huila volcano, you must bring your own tents and sleeping bags for camping.
