Tierradentro National Archaeological Park Tour
We will pick you up at 5 am at your hotel in Popayán for a full-day excursion. Our first stop will be for breakfast in the village of Inzá before we head to the National Archaeological Park of Tierradentro, an important archaeological site.
During the park tour, we will explore three historical periods: pre-Hispanic, colonial, and republican. We will walk among pyramids and underground tombs called hypogea, excavated in volcanic rock, including burial chambers that can reach a depth of 8 metres (26 feet).
We will learn about the Paez people who inhabited the territory before the Spaniards and their efforts to protect their land. After visiting the tombs, we will view the stone statues of indigenous idols and explore the museum housing objects from excavations.
At midday, we will break for lunch, which includes a chicken or meat dish, rice, soup, salad, patacones, and a drink. In the afternoon, we will visit the San Andrés de Pisimbalá church, noted for its stone structure and thatched roof.
We will return to Popayán, with drop-off at your hotel between 8 pm and 9 pm.
