Pickup will be at 5 am at your hotel in Popayán for a full-day excursion. We will head to the National Archaeological Park of Tierradentro, an important archaeological site in Cauca, stopping for breakfast in Inzá along the way.

At the park, we will explore traces of three historical periods: pre-Hispanic, colonial and republican. The site includes pyramids and underground tombs known as 'hypogea', carved in volcanic rock, with burial chambers reaching depths of 8 metres (26 feet).

We will learn about the Paez people, the indigenous inhabitants prior to Spanish colonization, and explore if they built these caves. After touring the tombs, we will see the stone statues of indigenous idols and visit the museum displaying artifacts from excavations.

Lunch will include a chicken or meat dish with rice, soup, salad, 'patacones', and a drink. In the afternoon, we will visit the church of San Andrés de Pisimbalá, a colonial structure with a thatched roof.

We will return to Popayán, arriving at your hotel between 8 pm and 9 pm.
