Samaipata 2 Day Trip
Day 1: Santa Cruz - Samaipata
At 8 am, pick-up will be from your hotel as we set off west from Santa Cruz de la Sierra towards Samaipata. Enjoy views of the rugged Bolivian plains and small villages along the way. Our first stop will be at Cuevas, notable for its waterfalls, where you can have lunch before proceeding to Fort Samaipata. This archaeological site, meaning "rest between mountains" in Quechua, has pre-Columbian ruins nestled in the mountains. It was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1998 and has been inhabited by three different civilizations. After the tour, we will go to the town of Samaipata for the night.
Day 2: Samaipata - Santa Cruz
After breakfast, we will explore Samaipata, a town founded by Spanish settlers in 1618, learning about its history including its involvement in Che Guevara's guerilla campaign. Next, we will visit the Archaeological Museum of Samaipata, which features ceramics, statuettes, and other artifacts from the fort's excavations. After two days, we will return to Santa Cruz de la Sierra, dropping you back at your hotel around 6 pm.
