The volcanic scenery around Mount Saint Helens offers unique sights including lava caves, lakes, and 100-year-old trees. This trip is essential for anyone in Portland.
Description
Mount Saint Helens is a significant geological site, located 80 kilometers (50 miles) from Portland, known for its violent eruption over 30 years ago. Our departure is scheduled for the indicated time, meeting at 523 NE 19th Avenue, after which we will travel to Mount Saint Helens, discussing notable geological events, especially the eruption of 18th May 1980.
Upon reaching Mount Saint Helens, we will hike along a notable route that features waterfalls, lava caves, and forests. The largest lava cave in North America is located here. Time permitting, we will also visit the viewpoint near the volcano crater, ideal for learning about the stratovolcano's activity. A picnic-style lunch will be served next to Spirit Lake.
Post-lunch, we will explore more areas around Mount Saint Helens before returning to Portland. A stop will be made at a bar for refreshments before concluding the trip after 12 hours at the original meeting point.
