Tour Details
The Industrial and Handicraft Textile Museum (MIAT) is located inside an old carpet factory in the center of Portugal. This century-old building in Mira de Aire houses a vast collection of artisanal equipment and industrial machines used in the wool transformation process.
During this guided tour of the MIAT, you'll explore the history of the golden age of Portuguese textiles, highlighting Mira de Aire and its neighboring town of Minde as leaders in this sector during the 20th century. The tour covers various stages of the textile process – from wool shearing, washing, and carding to dyeing and sewing the material, as well as the crafting of blankets and other textile garments.
This tour lasts between 1 hour and 1.5 hours and concludes with intriguing curiosities about the textile world that are sure to surprise you.
Opening Times
The MIAT opens Tuesday to Sunday from 10 am to 1 pm and from 2 pm to 6 pm. Guided visits are available every 60 minutes. Alternatively, visitors can explore the museum at their own pace without a guide.
