12 Day Exploration of Tocantins

Day 1: Palmas

Upon your arrival, either at your accommodation or the airport, you will be greeted with a tasty lunch or dinner. Following this, we will check into your hotel where we will spend our first night during this exciting 12-day exploration of Tocantins. After settling in, you’ll have the chance to begin discovering this captivating Brazilian region.

Day 2: Palmas - Puente Alto de Tocantins

Your day will start with a delightful breakfast at the hotel before we depart Palmas and make our way to Puente Alto de Tocantins. Our first stop will be the stunning Sussuapara Canyon within the Jalapão State Park, where you can take your first plunge into the refreshing waters beneath a stunning 16-foot waterfall.

After this invigorating swim, we will return to Puente Alto de Tocantins to enjoy a scrumptious lunch at the hotel. Later, we will head to witness the stunning sunset over the remarkable rock formation of Pedra Furada. Remember to bring your camera for this breathtaking view! We will then return to the lodge for a fulfilling dinner and rest up for the adventures ahead.

Day 3: Puente Alto de Tocantis - Mateiros

After a hearty breakfast, we will set out to explore two nearby waterfalls: the Lajeiro waterfall, perfect for a refreshing swim, and the breathtaking Old Falls, which is sure to amaze.

Our journey continues into the picturesque Jalapão State Park. We will reach the serene small beach of the beautiful New River, offering yet another chance for a dip. We will refuel with a delicious lunch and conclude our park excursions with a sunset boat ride on the river. Later, we will make our way to Mateiros for dinner and to retire for the night.

Day 4: Jalapão Park - Mateiros

Following breakfast, we will venture to the famed fervedouros, one of the most mesmerizing spots in the Jalapão State Park. Here, you will learn about these natural turquoise water wells and appreciate the merging of the Sono and Formiga rivers.

Afterward, a traditional lunch will be served in the Quilombo community. Refreshed, we will proceed to the magnificent Jalapão dunes. The day will wrap up back in Mateiros, where dinner awaits and you'll spend the night.

Day 5: Mateiros - Palmas

We will enjoy breakfast in the community of Plata before making our way back to Palmas, observing the incredible sights of the Cerrado ecoregion, a vast tropical savannah filled with highlands and forests. A delicious lunch will be included en route, concluding the day at the hotel in Palmas for a restful evening and dinner.

Day 6: Palmas

Following breakfast at the hotel, you'll embark on a guided tour of Brazil’s youngest capital city. Discover intriguing sites such as the elegant Sunflower Square and the remarkable Coluna Prestes Memorial, among many other attractions. Dinner will be served back at the hotel to end your day.

Day 7: Palmas - Caseara

After breakfast, we will depart the capital to explore Cantão Park. We will visit the park's headquarters to learn more about this fascinating ecosystem. Later, we will head to the Caseara Inn for the night, complete with dinner.

Day 8: Caseara - Cantão Park

With a hearty breakfast served at our accommodation in Caseara, we will have a brief safety briefing for the day’s activities in Cantão Park. Based on the season, you may opt for hiking, biking, or a boat ride. Afterward, we’ll recharge with a wholesome lunch and return to Caseara in the evening for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 9: Caseara - Lagoa da Confusão

After breakfast, we will head towards Lagoa da Confusão, the westernmost city in Tocantins. Once there, we will drive alongside the delightful Javaés River to board a boat that will take us to Bananal Island for a traditional farmhouse lunch.

Following this, prepare for an exciting photo safari. We'll be on the lookout for the local wildlife, capturing extraordinary photos of the animals inhabiting this region. Keep an eye on the river; you might spot birds, caimans, and much more! We’ll conclude our day back in Lagoa da Confusão for dinner and spend the night.

Day 10: Lagoa da Confusão

After a filling breakfast, we will embark on a tour of Lagoa da Confusão, checking out its main churches, boulevards, and squares. Enjoy a relaxing boat ride on the lagoon’s waters, where you can even take a refreshing swim. In the evening, we will return to the lodge for a well-deserved dinner and rest.

Day 11: Lagoa da Confusão - Bananal Island - Palmas

The following morning, breakfast will be served before we proceed to explore the three ecoregions of Brazil: the dense Amazon vegetation, Ipucas forests, and Cerrado regions. We will conclude our day back at the hotel in Palmas, enjoying a relaxing dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 12: Palmas

On the final day, we will enjoy breakfast before transferring you to Palmas airport, marking the end of this wonderful 12-day journey through the remarkable state of Tocantins.
