Description
At the scheduled time, we'll meet at Rua do Dr Ferreira da Silva de Oporto and head towards Amarante, known for its artistic, cultural, and architectural values. The city is located 60 kilometres (37 miles) from Porto, in the Serra do Marão and above the Tâmega River, the longest tributary of the Duero. Upon arrival, the landscapes from the city's viewpoint will introduce the tour.
We will walk along the streets and see the picturesque houses along both banks of the river. You will learn about Amarante's community efforts during Napoleon's invasion of Portugal in the early 19th century.
Two key attractions in Amarante are the São Gonçalo Bridge and Monastery, both significant sites named after the same saint, highlighting the city's devotion.
