Mysterious caves, rocky canyon landscapes and pre-Columbian remains. Join us on this 2-day tour around Potosí to discover all this and more!
Day 1
We'll meet at 8 am in front of the Potosí Mint. Our first destination, about 10 kilometres (6.2 miles) outside the city, is a silver smelter, where we'll learn about the mining tradition of Potosí and see colonial era machines used for processing silver. Next, we will visit the Devil's Cave, which carries a dark legend. We will also explore the Cayara hacienda and its house museum with mural decorations, and see the Cayara tunnels, associated with a hydroelectric plant financed by the Frenchman Luis Soux for the first public lighting in Potosí.
After lunch, we will visit the Chiracoro lime kilns and understand the use of lime from their furnaces. The day will conclude at Chocko Chocko hill, an archaeological site. We'll camp at Jatun Pampa by a river.
Day 2
After breakfast, we will continue our journey by visiting the Valley of Rocks, home to unique geological formations and canyons inhabited by pumas. Our next stop is the Chiracoro waterfalls, where we can observe artisanal fishermen before taking a lunch break. After lunch, we will return to Potosí, arriving around 4 pm.
