Caracoles Mine Adventure
We will gather at the designated meeting point in front of the National Mint of Bolivia, where our exploration of one of Potosí's functioning mines will commence.
A bus will transport us to the vicinity of Cerro Rico, renowned as the world's premier silver deposit. This site was historically significant during the colonial era, marking the peak of silver extraction that bolstered the Spanish Empire's wealth.
After donning our safety gear, our first visit will be to the mining market and the chemical lab, where the analysis and classification of minerals take place.
Next, we will ascend the hill, pausing at a lookout point to admire stunning panoramic views of Potosí. Following this, we will venture into the renowned Caracoles mine, distinguished as one of the few colonial-era mines still operational today.
Upon entering, we will be greeted by Tío, the revered protector of miners. A two-hour stroll through the tunnels will allow us to observe the miners diligently executing their work.
After completing this insightful four-hour tour, we will make our way back to the initial meeting point in Potosí.
