Kari Kari Lagoons Hike
We'll meet at 8:45 am at Ayacucho Street in Potosí to begin the hike. A bus will take us out of the city center, showcasing architecture with a pre-colonial feel as we approach the mountains. Along the route, we will observe the exterior of mineral refining plants.
Upon arrival, we will start a fifteen-minute ascent to reach the Kari Kari lagoons: San Ildefonso, Chalviri, San Rafael, and San Pablo. These lagoons were constructed in the 16th century. Enjoy views of the slopes and Cerro Rico while engaging with the Andean flora and fauna. We will continue walking to the mountain's summit at an altitude of 5000 meters.
A picnic lunch will be enjoyed at the Apacheta viewpoint, followed by the descent of the mountain, which offers one of the best panoramic views of Potosí. Transport will pick us up at the starting point for our return to Potosí. The tour concludes at 4 pm.
Add an extra day
This option includes spending the night at the home of a traditional Apacheta family after dinner. The meal will consist of soup and a main course. The next morning, we will rise early for breakfast and continue our hike to the Chaqui hot springs, where we will enjoy therapeutic waters and a two-course lunch before returning to Potosí. Arrival is scheduled for 3 pm.
