Kari Kari Lagoons Hike
We'll meet at 8:45 am at Ayacucho Street in Potosí to begin this hiking route. A bus will take us out of the city center, showcasing the architectural transition to a pre-colonial style as we approach the mountains. We will see the outside of the refining plants for minerals extracted from the mines.
Upon arrival, we'll start a fifteen-minute ascent to the Kari Kari lagoons: San Ildefonso, Chalviri, San Rafael, and San Pablo, constructed in the 16th century. The hike offers stunning views, including the Cerro Rico, and we will encounter Andean flora and fauna. We will continue to the top of the mountain, at an altitude of 5000 kilometers.
A break will be taken for a picnic at the Apacheta viewpoint, followed by the descent. The transport will pick us up to return to Potosí, ending the tour at 4 pm.
Add an extra day
With this option, upon reaching the mountain's top, we will have dinner and spend the night with a traditional Apacheta family, experiencing their lifestyle. Dinner will include soup and a main course. The next morning, we’ll rise at dawn for breakfast and continue our hike to the Chaqui hot springs.
At the hot springs, we will enjoy therapeutic waters and have a two-course lunch before returning transport to Potosí, with an expected arrival time of 3 pm.
