Potosí Mines Tour
When booking, you can choose between two options. Both begin and end on Ayacucho Street, in the center of Potosí:
Kunty Mine Tour
This option takes you to one of the most famous modern mines in Potosí. After a 20-minute drive, we arrive at Cerro Chico, home of the Kunty mine.
We will enter the gallery to visit one of its levels and explore the mining culture. Discussions will include El Tío, a deity often associated with alcohol, tobacco, or coca leaves. You can take photos of the mining wagons before returning to the minibus that will take us back to the starting point.
Candelaria Mine Tour
The Candelaria mine is older and more traditional, dating back to the seventeenth century and located approximately 20 minutes away.
The tour begins with a visit to a small mining museum, where you can learn more about the profession and understand the daily life of the miners. We'll cover their diet, schedule, and tools, including the coca leaves used to help with altitude. We will tour the galleries for two hours, discovering ancient ritual offerings and observing how the tunnels interconnect before returning to the surface via the Rosario mine and heading back to the starting point.
