Potosí Mines Exploration
When securing your spot, you can select between two distinct options, both beginning and concluding on Ayacucho Street, right in the heart of Potosí:
Kunty Mine Exploration
Opting for this tour takes you to one of Potosí's renowned modern mines. A drive of approximately 20 minutes leads us to Cerro Chico, home to the Kunty mine.
As we enter the mine, you'll explore one of its levels and delve into the fascinating mining culture. Are you familiar with El Tío? This deity, often associated with alcohol, tobacco, and coca leaves, will be a topic of discussion. Capture memories with photos of the mining carts before we return by minibus to our original location.
Candelaria Mine Exploration
Esteemed for its history and tradition, the Candelaria mine is even older, tracing back to the seventeenth century and situated about 20 minutes away.
This tour begins at a small mining museum, an ideal venue to gain insights into the trade and to comprehend the miners' daily routine. We will discuss their diet, work schedules, and the tools they utilize, including coca leaves consumed to adapt to the altitude.
For two hours, we will explore the galleries, witnessing ancient ritual offerings and marveling at the intricate network of interconnected tunnels. Our ascent back to the surface will be through the Rosario mine, after which we will proceed back to our starting point by vehicle.
