Potosi Mines Tour + Thuru Museum
At the chosen time, we'll meet in front of the Casa de la Moneda to begin the tour of the exterior of the Potosí mines. This is suitable for those who prefer to explore the history and workings of the mines without entering the tunnels.
We will start by visiting the mining market, where we will observe products used in the mines, including nitroglycerine. Following this, we'll proceed to the chemical laboratory where the selection of minerals occurs. Afterward, we will visit a viewpoint with a panoramic view of Potosí.
Next, we'll explore the exterior of the Candelaria and Rosario mines and learn about their significance since colonial times, noting that 80% of the world's silver comes from Cerro Rico, known as 'Rich Mountain.'
The final destination is the Thuru Museum, which is named after an invention used for mineral refining since colonial times. We will view this artifact and explore the exhibition featuring collections of minerals and samples of mining work materials from the colonial era.
Ultimately, we will return to Potosí, arriving three to four hours after departure.
