Potosi Mines Tour + Thuru Museum

At the chosen time, we'll meet in front of the Casa de la Moneda to begin this exterior tour of the Potosí mines. This tour is designed for those who prefer not to enter the tunnels, focusing instead on the history and operations of the mines from outside.

We will first visit the mining market to see products used in the mines, such as nitroglycerine. Next, we will head to the chemical laboratory where mineral selection occurs. We will then visit a viewpoint for a panoramic view of Potosí.

We will observe the exterior of the Candelaria and Rosario mines and learn about the importance of these deposits since colonial times. Notably, 80% of the world's silver is sourced from the Cerro Rico, meaning 'Rich Mountain'.

The final stop is the Thuru Museum, named after a traditional invention used for mineral refining since colonial times. After exploring this artifact, we will view the exhibition featuring collections of minerals and tools from colonial mining work.

We will return to Potosí approximately three to four hours after departure.
