Tour Overview
We'll convene at the assigned location, Via Carlo Rosini, 21, to initiate our guided adventure through Pozzuoli. Are you excited to unveil the beauty of one of Campania’s hidden gems? Let's begin!
The adventure kicks off as we make our way to Villa Avellino, a historic park encompassing remains of ancient Roman cisterns, symbols that signify the city’s monumental architectural and hydraulic significance during its imperial peak.
Our journey continues towards the San Guiseppe incline, leading us down to the remarkable Macellum, an ancient Roman marketplace widely recognized as the Temple of Serapis, named after the discovery of a statue of the Egyptian god in the area during excavations. Notably, this site stands as a prominent illustration of Bradyseism, a phenomenon distinctly observed in this region.
Next, we will make our way to the fishermen's dock and stroll along the seafront promenade of Via Napoli, steeped in history as it marks the initial arrival point for the Greeks establishing the colony of Pozzuoli.
Finally, we will ascend towards the Rione Terra rock, where you will delve into the neighborhood's past, revisiting significant events such as the evacuation that took place on March 2, 1970, prompted by the dangers linked to Bradyseism, up until the recent revitalization of the area.
Concluding our 2-hour walking tour, we will return to the starting point to bid farewell.
