Maio Island Day Trip

At 5:30 am, pickup will be at your hotel in Praia to travel to the Santiago island port. Present your ferry ticket for access to Maio Island, known for being the flattest in the archipelago.

After a 2-hour ferry ride, we will arrive at Porto Inglês dock in the south of Maio Island. The first stop will be at the salt mines interpretation center, where we will learn about the salt trade's impact on the island's development.

Next, we will visit the towns of Morro, Calheta, and Morrinho, observing local crafts and notable landscapes, including the impressive dunes of Morrinho.

The tour will proceed to the village of Pedro Vaz for a typical Cape Verdean lunch featuring several regional specialties. Post-lunch, we will visit Vila do Maio, the island's capital, to explore San José fortress and the church of Our Lady of Light.

The tour will conclude with a stop at Bitchirotcha Beach, Maio's most famous beach. Following this, we will return to Porto Inglês for the ferry back to Santiago. After disembarkation, transportation will be provided back to your hotel in Praia, arriving at 7:30 pm.
