Santiago Island Tour
On this tour of Santiago island, you will explore the heart of Cape Verde, visiting the towns of Assomada and Tarrafal while tasting the local grogue, a traditional white rum.
How does it work?
You will be picked up from your hotel in Praia at 9 am. The tour begins with a drive inland on Santiago island, passing through Picos, where we will stop to try locally made grogue, crafted from cane sugar. Along the way, you'll see the Pico de Antonia, the highest mountain on the island.
Upon arriving in Assomada, you'll have the opportunity to explore its vibrant market, filled with fruit, vegetables, and fresh fish. After visiting Assomada, we will cross the Serra de Malagueta Natural Park and make our way to the next destination, Tarrafal.
In Tarrafal, a picturesque fishing village, you'll discover one of the most beautiful beaches in Cape Verde. However, this paradise also has a somber history as it was the site of a concentration camp during the Second World War. You will learn about this history at the Museum of the Resistance.
If you're feeling hungry, you will enjoy a typical lunch at a restaurant in Tarrafal. The meal includes fried fish, stuffed tuna or grouper accompanied by vegetables, salad, water, and coffee, all while taking in stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean.
After lunch, we will return to Praia, passing through scenic bays and deserted beaches. You will be back at your hotel by 5 pm, concluding an unforgettable day on Santiago island.
