Embark on an exciting day trip to the Valdés Peninsula from Puerto Madryn, where you'll have the chance to observe the captivating Magellanic penguins at Estancia San Lorenzo. Additionally, enjoy a boat trip to view southern right whales in their natural habitat.

Activity Details

Your adventure begins as we collect you from your hotel in Puerto Madryn before setting off towards the Valdés Peninsula, recognized as a World Heritage Site.

After approximately an hour on the road, we will arrive at Puerto Pirámides. Here, you have the opportunity to embark on a boat ride for southern right whale watching. These majestic creatures often approach the shores in search of crustaceans, providing a remarkable chance to view them up close.

Next, we will visit the Estancia San Lorenzo, renowned for its large Magellanic penguin colony. As we traverse a 1.5-kilometer (0.9-mile) trail through the colony, our knowledgeable guide will share insights into the lives of these fascinating birds, including their feeding habits and distinctive traits. After completing the hike, you will have an hour of free time to enjoy lunch at the ranch.

Following lunch, our exploration of the Valdés Peninsula continues by truck through the Punta Norte area. Depending on the season, you may encounter fur seals, southern elephant seals, and, on rare occasions, killer whales.

As our visit to the Punta Norte area wraps up, we will make our way to the Carlos Ameghino Interpretation Center. Here, you'll gain deeper insights into the peninsula's diverse flora and fauna. Finally, we will return to your hotel in Puerto Madryn, completing this full-day excursion.

Wildlife Observation

The Valdés Peninsula ranks among the top destinations in Argentina for viewing Magellanic penguins, Atlantic killer whales, and southern right whales. However, animal sightings can be unpredictable, influenced by factors such as weather conditions and the breeding cycles of different species.
