Whale Watching Details
We'll pick you up from your hotel in Puerto Madryn and travel to the El Doradillo Protected Natural Area, 30 minutes away, where we'll have the chance to see whales swimming as close as 25 meters. Afterward, we'll visit the Istmo Carlos Ameghino Centre to learn about local flora and fauna, and proceed to Puerto Pirámides villa for potential sightings of whales, cormorants, and sea lions.
From Puerto Pirámides, a self-booked 90-minute submersible boat trip is available, offering closer views of the whales. The trip concludes back at the dock, allowing free time for lunch before returning to your hotel.
Day Trip Options
Reservation options include three types of day trips, which are seasonal due to the whale reproductive cycle.
Coast
This option includes a whale-watching bus trip and tours of El Doradillo and Las Canteras beaches.
Season: until mid-October.
Traditional
This option consists of a boat ride around Golfo Nuevo for up-close views of southern right whales and wildlife, including sea lions and Patagonian birds.
Season: until mid-December.
Yellow Submarine
This option features a semi-submersible vessel with 40 windows for viewing whales both above and below the water.
Season: until the end of October.
Hotel Pick Up
Pickup times vary based on the tide. The local provider will contact you post-reservation to confirm the exact pickup time.
Important Info
The whale-watching season is from June to December, but sightings are not guaranteed. From November 1 to December 15, we'll visit the Isla de Pajaros Operations Centre instead of El Doradillo.
Penguin Spotting
For additional wildlife experiences, a penguin spotting excursion to Punta Tombo is available between September and December, where the largest colony of Magellanic penguins in South America resides.
