Enjoy the experience of seeing majestic southern right whales in the Valdes Peninsula, one of the most biodiverse areas of Argentina.
Whale Watching Details
Pick up from your hotel in Puerto Madryn will be arranged, followed by a trip to the El Doradillo Protected Natural Area, located 30 minutes away. Here, encounters with whales will occur as close as 25 meters from the coast.
Afterward, we will visit the Istmo Carlos Ameghino Centre to learn about local flora and fauna and then the Puerto Pirámides villa for potential sightings of whales, cormorants, and sea lions, depending on weather conditions.
From Puerto Pirámides, an optional submersible boat trip lasting 90 minutes is available for closer views of the whales. The boat returns to Puerto Pirámides dock, followed by free time for lunch before returning to your hotel in Puerto Madryn.
Day Trip Options
Select from the following day trips during the reservation, noting that each occurs in different seasons due to the whale reproductive cycle.
Coast
Includes a whale-watching bus trip and tours of El Doradillo and Las Canteras beaches.
Season: until mid-October
Traditional
Includes a boat ride around Golfo Nuevo, searching within a 10-mile radius for southern right whales and coastal landscapes.
Season: until mid-December
Yellow Submarine
This option allows views of whales from a semi-submersible vessel with 40 windows in the submerged cabin.
Season: until the end of October
Hotel Pick Up
Pickup times depend on tide conditions. The local provider will confirm the exact time post-reservation.
Important Info
The whale watching season runs from June to December; however, sightings are not guaranteed due to the unpredictable nature of animals.
From November 1 to December 15, visits to El Doradillo will be replaced with the Isla de Pajaros Operations Centre.
Penguin Spotting
A penguin spotting excursion to Punta Tombo is also available between September and December, home to the largest colony of Magellanic penguins in South America.
