Whale Watching Details
We'll pick you up from your hotel in Puerto Madryn and head to the El Doradillo Protected Natural Area, located just 30 minutes away, where we can see whales swimming up close, only 25 metres away. We will then visit the Istmo Carlos Ameghino Centre to learn about local flora and fauna, and later travel to Puerto Pirámides, where, weather permitting, we may spot whales, cormorants, and sea lions.
From Puerto Pirámides, you can also take a 90-minute submersible boat trip for a closer view of the whales. The boat trip concludes at the Puerto Pirámides dock, followed by free time for lunch before returning to your hotel in Puerto Madryn.
Day Trip Options
There are three types of day trips available for reservation, each occurring during different seasons due to the whale reproductive cycle.
Coast
This option includes a whale-watching bus trip and visits to the beaches of El Doradillo and Las Canteras.
Season: until mid-October
Traditional
This option features a boat ride around Golfo Nuevo to observe the southern right whales in their natural habitat, searching a radius of 10 miles.
Season: until mid-December
Yellow Submarine
This option allows you to view whales from a semi-submersible vessel with 40 windows in the submerged cabin, providing perspectives above and below the water.
Season: until the end of October
Hotel Pick Up
Pickup times from hotels in Puerto Madryn depend on the tide. The local provider will contact you to confirm the exact pickup time after your reservation.
Important Info
The whale watching season in Valdes Peninsula runs from June to December. However, animals are unpredictable, and not all species may be seen. From November 1 to December 15, instead of visiting El Doradillo, we will visit the Isla de Pajaros Operations Centre.
Penguin Spotting
If you're interested in more wildlife experiences, we also offer a penguin spotting excursion to Punta Tombo. Between September and December, this peninsula hosts the largest colony of Magellanic penguins in South America.
