Enjoy the experience of seeing southern right whales in the Valdes Peninsula, one of the most biodiverse areas of Argentina.
Whale Watching Details
We'll pick you up from your hotel in Puerto Madryn and travel to the El Doradillo Protected Natural Area, located 30 minutes away, where we can observe whales swimming up close, only 25 meters away. Next, we'll visit the Istmo Carlos Ameghino Centre to learn about local flora and fauna. We will then proceed to Puerto Pirámides villa, where, if weather permits, we'll see whales, cormorants, and sea lions. From Puerto Pirámides, you can take an optional 90-minute submersible boat trip for closer whale observation. The boat trip concludes back at the dock, followed by free time for lunch before returning to your hotel.
Tour Options
When making a reservation, choose one of the following excursion options:
Coast
This option includes the whale watching bus trip, touring the beaches of El Doradillo and Las Canteras.
Traditional
This includes a boat ride around Golfo Nuevo to see southern right whales in their natural habitat, with a search radius of 10 miles for optimal views. You will also appreciate local wildlife, including sea lions and Patagonian birds, particularly in spring.
Yellow Submarine
This option features a semi-submersible vessel that allows viewing whales from both above and below the water through 40 submerged cabin windows, showcasing their size and power.
Hotel Pick Up
Pick-up times from various hotels in Puerto Madryn depend on the tide. The local provider will confirm the exact pick-up time after your reservation.
Important Information
The whale watching season runs from June to December, although sightings of all species are not guaranteed. From November 1 to December 15, instead of visiting El Doradillo, we will visit the Isla de Pajaros Operations Centre.
Penguin Spotting
We offer a penguin spotting excursion to Punta Tombo, available between September and December, where you can see the largest colony of Magellanic penguins in South America.
