Chiloé Day Trip: Quemchi, Dalcahue & Castro

This day trip begins with a pickup from your downtown Puerto Montt hotel. You'll embark on a scenic hour-long drive to the town of Pargua. Upon arrival at the port, you will board a ferry to sail across the Chacao Channel, where the charm of Chiloé Island awaits.

During the crossing, you’ll have the chance to observe sea lions, pelicans, and various marine fauna typical of the Los Lagos region. This channel serves as the natural formation separating the continent from Chiloé Island. After approximately 30 minutes of cruising, we'll reach the port of Chacao, where a brief stroll will allow you to admire the picturesque church and the main square before continuing the tour.

Welcome to Quemchi! This town was famously referred to by the writer Francisco Coloane as the "Commune of 1000 Landscapes" due to its stunning beach, the Costanera. As we drive through, you’ll see firsthand why it earned this title. Next, we’ll cross a 430-meter (1,410-foot) bridge to the island known as the “Island of the Sailing Souls.”

Continuing our journey, we'll head to the municipality of Dalcahue, where you can take a stroll through the handicraft market and visit the church of Nuestra Señora de Los Dolores, a notable Chilean construction that is part of a World Heritage Site.

The final stop will be in Castro, the capital of the island. In this vibrant town, you’ll notice that most houses are painted in bright colors, and during the tour, you will learn about the significance of this tradition. We'll also visit the San Francisco church and its handicraft market.

As we conclude our day, we'll depart from Chiloé Island, returning to Puerto Montt, with a scheduled arrival approximately 12 hours after the initial pickup.
