Explore one of the most iconic species of the Mexican birdlife on this journey to the Macaw Sanctuary located in Puerto Vallarta. You'll discover various intriguing facts about these magnificent birds and the challenges they encounter.

Macaw Sanctuary Visit

We'll begin our day at 8:30 am with a pick-up from your accommodation in Puerto Vallarta, followed by a minibus ride to the Macaw Sanctuary, just an hour's drive away. Are you ready to encounter these vibrant creatures?

Upon arrival at the sanctuary, you'll have the chance to observe the ara militaris up close. A guided tour will take you through the reserve’s facilities, where you'll learn about the daily efforts of the staff who dedicate themselves to caring for these birds. You'll also understand how green macaws are nourished and discover why their optimal living conditions are found in temperate regions like Mexico.

As we stroll through the sanctuary, surrounded by numerous macaws, we will walk beneath the pine trees and soak in the serenity of this natural habitat. We will share fascinating facts about these birds and the threats they face. For instance, were you aware that macaws can live up to 70 years and possess up to 15,000 feathers?

After an enriching two-and-a-half-hour exploration of the sanctuary, we'll board the minibus again and proceed to a nearby restaurant. You will have two hours of leisure to enjoy a meal before we make our way back to Puerto Vallarta.

By 3 pm, we will return you to your hotel, concluding this memorable tour.
