Chiloe Island: Chacao, Ancud & Puñihuil Penguins
At 8:30 am, we'll leave from Puerto Varas and head to the village of Pargua. There, we'll take a ferry to Chacao, a small village on the island of Chiloé.
From Chacao, we will travel to the Islotes de Puñihuil Natural Monument, where Humboldt and Patagonian penguins breed. A boat ride, not included in the excursion price, will provide opportunities to observe these animals along with other species, like the red-legged cormorant and the kelp gull.
Our next stop is Ancud, the island's capital until 1982. We will visit the Regional Museum and Fort San Antonio to learn about Chiloé's colonial history. After observing the fort's cannons, you will have an hour of free time at the municipal market to explore local handicrafts and foods.
We will then return to Puerto Varas, arriving at approximately 6:30 pm.
