Maullín Tour + Birdwatching in Quenuir Bajo

During this excursion in the Los Lagos region, we will tour the city of Maullín and engage in bird watching at Quenuir Bajo, focusing on the main migratory species of Chile. We will pick you up from your hotel and travel south to Maullín, where we will visit its main square and church.

Following a brief introductory talk about the wetlands of the WHSRN: the Western Hemisphere Shorebird Reserve Network, we will proceed to the Maullín pier to take a boat to Quenuir Bajo. After a short walk to the wetland of Las Lajas, known for its biodiversity, we will use binoculars and long-range telephoto lenses to observe up to 53% of Chile's migratory birds.

Depending on the season and weather, species observed may include flamingos, coscoroba swans, imperial cormorants, rock cormorants, black-necked swans, curlews, and pilpilens. A snack will be provided, including a cereal bar, sandwich, and a drink (choice of juice, tea, or coffee).

After the snack, we will continue to the Quenuir Lagoon for additional bird watching, concluding at the restaurant La Picá del Flamenco for three empanadas (meat, cheese, and seafood). Afterward, we will return to the pier and take the boat back to Maullín, then return to your hotel, completing the tour approximately eleven hours after pickup.
