On this excursion through the Los Lagos region, we will tour the city of Maullín and engage in bird watching in Quenuir Bajo, focusing on Chile's migratory species.

Maullín Tour + Birdwatching in Quenuir Bajo

We will pick you up at your hotel and drive to Maullín. Upon arrival, a tour of the main square and church will take place. This will be followed by an introductory talk about the wetlands of WHSRN: the Western Hemisphere Shorebird Reserve Network. Afterward, we'll head to the Maullín pier for a boat to Quenuir Bajo.

From the pier, we will walk to the Las Lajas wetland, home to 53% of Chile's migratory birds. We will use binoculars and long-range telephoto lenses. Depending on the season and weather, we may observe species such as flamingos, coscoroba swans, imperial and rock cormorants, black-necked swans, curlews, and pilpilens. A snack will be provided that includes a cereal bar, sandwich, and a drink (juice, tea, or coffee).

After the snack, we will visit the Quenuir Lagoon for further bird watching, concluding our tour at the restaurant La Picá del Flamenco, where we will enjoy three Chilean empanadas filled with meat, cheese, and seafood. Following this, we will return by boat to Maullín and then drive back to your hotel, arriving eleven hours after pickup.
