Suriplaza Colourful Mountains Hike

Walk through the beautiful scenery of Suriplaza and its Colourful Mountains on our hike. We'll leave Putre behind and discover one of the most amazing places in the Chilean highlands.

Suriplaza Colourful Mountains Hike

Between 7 and 8 am, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Putre and set off for Caquena. From there, we'll head to Cosapilla to venture into one of the most beautiful parts of the Chilean Altiplano. The colourful mountains of Suriplaza await!

When we get to the foothills of these peaks, we'll kick off a hiking route divided into three stages. The hike will take 4 hours and cover a distance of 4 miles (6 kilometres), along medium-difficulty trails showcasing the reddish, ochre and brown tones of the Suriplaza Mountains.

In the first stage, we'll ascend to an altitude of 16,732 feet (5,100 metres). The next two stages will reach 17,060 and 17,388 feet (5,200 and 5,300 metres). At higher altitudes, we'll enjoy views of the polylepis and yareta forests, characteristic of the region.

We'll take a break at the halfway point for a picnic lunch of sandwiches, dried fruits, chocolate, and juices. After lunch, we will descend the Suriplaza Colourful Mountains to observe their hues more closely.

We will then return to the starting point and take you back to Putre, arriving at your hotel between 4 and 5 pm. See you next time!
