Have you ever thought about experiencing both hemispheres simultaneously? On this journey from Quito, you will have the unique opportunity to place one foot in the northern hemisphere and the other in the southern hemisphere, straddling the equatorial line that defines the globe's midpoint.
Description
At the scheduled time, we will set off northward towards the Mitad del Mundo, which translates to 'Middle of the World'. This location is renowned for its monumental structure that indicates the precise spot of the equator, from where the nation derives its name.
Surrounded by breathtaking natural scenery, the Equatorial Monument stands proudly at latitude 0º0'0". Its unique pyramidal-quadrangular design features four monoliths positioned at each corner, serving to illustrate the alignment with the four cardinal directions.
We will explore the Ethnographic Museum and the equinoctial line, an imaginary divider that splits the Earth's hemispheres. Standing with one foot on either side of this line, you will be exactly situated at the Middle of the World!
During your time in this striking location, feel free to savor some regional dishes, such as yahuarlocro, a delightful soup made from potatoes, or delve into the traditional homes nearby.
Afterward, we will reconvene to begin our journey back to the original meeting point, completing a round trip lasting between 4 and 5 hours in total.
