On this tour of Quito we'll relive ancient ancestral customs linked to the Uku Pacha, the underworld of the dead in Inca mythology.

Uku Pacha Tour of Quito

At 9 am we'll meet at the Arco de la Reina, where this tour will begin.

We'll first visit the San Diego cemetery, where notable historical figures are buried. We will explore their lives and view some mausoleums that are regarded as works of art.

During the visit, we'll learn about Inca mythology, specifically the Uku Pacha, the realm of the dead ruled by Supay, the Inca god of death.

We'll then see the exterior of the Hospicio San Lázaro and proceed to the Museo de la Ciudad, a notable cultural institution located in a former World Heritage Site hospital. Here, we will uncover the history of one of the oldest hospices in South America.

Afterwards, lunch will be at the San Ignacio restaurant, where we will enjoy a typical dish. Following lunch, we will visit the Alberto Mena y Caamaño Museum to learn about the massacre that occurred after the First Cry of Independence. Our route will continue to the San Francisco convent, a significant Franciscan complex known as the Escorial of the New World.

After exploring the convent, we will visit the church of the Society of Jesus and conclude our tour at the Yumbos artisan chocolate shop for a chocolate tasting, finishing around 12 pm.
