Reasons to Visit the LAVA Centre
Purchasing this ticket provides access to a remarkable museum focused on the geological activities and volcanoes of Iceland. Centrally situated in Hvolsvöllur, it stands out as one of the premier exhibition centres in the region!
Featuring more than 8 interactive exhibits, the centre promises an educational and immersive journey through various volcanic phenomena found in Iceland. Beginning in the first gallery, you will encounter a captivating display chronicling 100 years of volcanic eruptions, enhanced by light and sound effects.
The second space is home to the "time wheel", offering insights into the seismic history of the nation. In the third area, visitors can experience an eruption simulator that realistically depicts the most significant earthquake in Iceland's history with stunning accuracy. It’s an awe-inspiring sight!
Proceed to the fourth area, where you can listen to the authentic sounds of the Eyjafjallajökull eruption. The fifth section features a geothermal corridor that displays geysers on the floor.
Continuing on, you’ll find the lava room, showcasing various eruption types and lava movements on adjacent screens. It’s a perfect moment for a memorable photo! The seventh area illustrates the latest eruption in Iceland, the Fagradalseldar event on the Reykjanes peninsula, providing insights into its impact and aftermath.
Finally, you will reach the grand finale, the last room at the LAVA Centre, which envelops you in a cloud of ash that emulates the famous Eyjafjallajökull eruption from 2010. Once you complete your exploration of the eight rooms, you will exit into a hallway leading to the cinema, observation platform, and gift shop.
