Why Visit the LAVA Centre?
The LAVA Centre is a museum focused on Iceland's volcanoes and geological activity. Located in Hvolsvöllur, it features over 8 interactive spaces that provide an immersive and educational experience about volcanic types in Iceland. The first room displays an exhibition on 100 years of eruptions in Iceland with lights and sound effects.
The second room features the "time wheel", illustrating the history of the country's seismic activity. The third room includes an eruption simulator showcasing the last major earthquake in Iceland. In the fourth room, you will hear the real sounds of the Eyjafjallajökull eruption. The fifth room has a geothermic corridor with geysers on the floor.
The sixth room, the lava room, presents various types of eruptions and lava flows. The seventh room details the last eruption at Fagradalseldar. Finally, the last room simulates the Eyjafjallajökull eruption in 2010 with a cloud of ash. After visiting, you can access the cinema, observation platform, and gift shop.
