Gilberto Freyre Foundation

At the scheduled time, we will meet at the Gilberto Freyre Foundation to begin our exploration of the residence of this renowned Brazilian writer and sociologist.

Gilberto de Mello Freyre lived in this house for over 40 years, with the building itself originating in the 19th century as the Villa Santo Antonio de Apipucos.

The house-museum features numerous objects belonging to the author of The Master and the Slaves, detailing how this book influenced Brazilian society. The mansion and gardens host more than 100 native species.

We will discover the author's passions and tastes through the décor, which includes catholic images, African artifacts, English silverware, eastern pottery, and Portuguese tiles.

The guided tour will last approximately 50 minutes to 1 hour, concluding our time at the Gilberto Freyre Foundation.
