On this guided tour of the Gilberto Freyre Foundation, we'll discover valuable artwork in the house-museum of this Brazilian author to understand the evolution of Brazilian society.

Gilberto Freyre Foundation

At the specified time, we will meet at the Gilberto Freyre Foundation to explore the former home of this notable Brazilian writer and sociologist.

Gilberto de Mello Freyre resided in this house for over 40 years; the building itself dates back to the 19th century and was originally known as the Villa Santo Antonio de Apipucos.

Currently, it serves as a house-museum, housing various objects associated with the author of The Master and the Slaves. We will discuss the book's impact on Brazilian society while touring the mansion's rooms and gardens, which contain more than 100 native species.

As we explore, we'll learn about the author's passions and tastes through the home’s decor, featuring catholic images, African artifacts, English silverware, eastern pottery, and Portuguese tiles.

The tour lasts between 50 minutes and 1 hour, concluding our guided tour around the Gilberto Freyre Foundation.
