On this guided visit of the Gilberto Freyre Foundation, we will explore the house-museum of the Brazilian author, gaining insights into the evolution of Brazilian society.

Gilberto Freyre Foundation

At the scheduled time, we will meet at the Gilberto Freyre Foundation to begin our tour of the home of this renowned Brazilian writer and sociologist.

Gilberto de Mello Freyre resided in this house for over 40 years. The building, known as the Villa Santo Antonio de Apipucos, dates back to the 19th century.

Converted into a house-museum, it hosts numerous artifacts that belonged to the author of The Master and the Slaves. We will discuss the influence this book has had on Brazilian society while exploring the various rooms and gardens, which feature over 100 native species.

We will uncover the author's passions and tastes through the house's decorations, which include catholic images, African pieces, English silverware, eastern pottery and Portuguese tiles.

After a 50-minute to 1-hour tour, we will conclude this guided visit around the Gilberto Freyre Foundation.
