On this free tour of Redondela, we'll explore the seafaring history of this Galician town and its connection to the Camino de Santiago.

Redondela Free Tour

We will meet at Plaza Constitución 1812, the main stop of the Portuguese Way of St. James. This tour will cover the old town, focusing on its medieval architecture, including remnants of the wall near the Church of Santiago.

The tour will proceed to the seafaring neighborhood that grew from the small port and the Jacobean Route. We will discuss local curiosities, such as why residents are known as choqueiros, notable figures like Xan Carallás, and the town's nickname, the Town of the Viaducts.

Additionally, we will cover the historic Battle of Rande and notable personalities including Captain Nemo, Pedro Madruga, and John O'Dogherty.

The tour will highlight Redondela's transition from a fishing village to an industrial town during the 20th century, largely due to the textile and fishing industries.

Before concluding the tour, we will provide recommendations for local dining options, ending after two hours in Plaza Santiago Apóstol.
