Discover the birthplace of French champagne as you explore the vineyards around Épernay, Hautvillers and Mareuil-sur-Ay with this Champagne Villages Tour from Reims.
Tour Details
We'll meet at the designated time in front of Rheims train station. From here, we'll take a minibus to Épernay, a notable champagne-producing village in France.
In Épernay, we will walk along the Avenue de Champagne, home to important cellars from brands such as Moët & Chandon, Pol Roger, Perrier Jouët, and Boizel. We'll see the Dom Pérignon statue, commemorating the monk who advanced champagne production in the 17th century.
The tour continues to the vineyards near Épernay, where we will discuss the 'champagne terroirs'. Next, we will visit the village of Hautvillers and its church, where Dom Pérignon is buried.
Our next stop will be Mareuil-sur-Ay. Here, we will visit Le Clos Corbier, a traditional regional house, to taste French champagne. This tasting includes a traditional lunch featuring three local dishes.
After lunch, we will visit a family winery and taste handcrafted champagnes.
Finally, we will return to Reims train station, concluding the tour after a total of 6.5 hours.
