Vibrantly colourful mountains, hot springs and volcanic landscapes: discover the incredible scenery of the Icelandic Highlands on this day trip to Landmannalaugar from Reykjavik.
Day Trip Details
You'll meet at the meeting point in Reykjavik at the scheduled time in the morning, then set off towards the Highlands of Iceland, home to the Landmannalaugar nature reserve. This volcanic valley region is referred to as the "pearl of the central Highlands".
Upon entering Landmannalaugar, you will start a light trek to appreciate the landscape. You will traverse an area filled with rivers and lakes, highlighted by the stunning Hnausapollur, a volcanic lake over 10,000 years old with strikingly blue waters. The trek allows you to observe the vivid contrasts of nature, from turquoise crater lakes to green and red mountain hues.
Explore the hills of Landmannalaugar, discovering the valley's vibrant colours up close. After a 3-hour trek, you'll have free time to rest and eat.
Next, continue to the region's natural pools. Take this chance to relax in the thermal springs while enjoying the surrounding landscapes.
On the return journey to Reykjavik, you will pass near Hekla, one of Iceland's most active volcanoes, known historically as the Gateway to Hell. You will arrive back at the meeting point in Reykjavik after a total of 13 hours.
