Raufarhólshellir Lava Tunnel Tour

After meeting at your chosen time at the BSI Bus Terminal in Reykjavik, we will set off from the Icelandic capital towards the Raufarhólshellir lava tunnel.

Once we reach the cave, we will be equipped with safety helmets and flashlights for a guided tour of the lava tube. The one-hour visit will cover a route around the caves and underground galleries created by volcanic activity over 5,000 years ago.

The tunnel is almost 4,500 feet (1,360 meters) long, making it the fourth-longest lava tube in Iceland. Our low-difficulty walk will cover approximately 1,150 feet (350 meters), showcasing an array of colors from different volcanic minerals in the rock. Additionally, we will learn about the natural phenomena that formed this geological site. Raufarhólshellir is recognized as one of the most spectacular lava tunnels in Iceland.

The tunnel features several wooden staircases and walkways to safely access various areas of the cave. Notably, a specific cave within the tunnel was featured in the movie Noah, starring Russell Crowe and Anthony Hopkins.

At the end of our visit, we will return to the original departure point by bus, with a total tour duration of 3 hours.
