Puffin Watching in Reykjavík
The best time to see puffins in Reykjavík is between May and August, when they return to Iceland after a winter at sea. We will meet at Geirsfata, number 11, close to the port of Reykjavík. After gathering, we will board a wooden boat and head north on Faxaflói Bay, known for its large puffin populations. There will be opportunities to take photos and use binoculars for a closer look at the birds.
An English-speaking guide will provide information about puffins, including facts about their monogamous nature and single egg-laying habits. An audio guide is available in 5 languages to enhance your experience. You will also see other birds like the common eider, arctic tern, and cormorants.
After an hour's puffin watching boat trip, we will return to the original departure port.
What Island Will We Visit?
The boat captain will determine the best island for puffin sightings based on tides and weather conditions, likely Akurey or Lundey. We will not disembark any island to avoid disturbing the birds but will get as close as possible to their coasts, respecting their habitat.
Pickup from the specified meeting point will be at least 30 minutes before the scheduled time.
