The Snæfellsjökull National Park offers remarkable landscapes. Experience black sand beaches, charming villages, Kirkjufell mountain, and more on this day trip from Reykjavik.
Description
At 9 am, pickup will be provided from your chosen meeting point in Reykjavik for a journey across the Snaefellsnes peninsula to the stunning Snæfellsjökull glacier, set on an active stratovolcano. The glacier’s snow-capped peak is visible from Reykjavik.
During the trip, observe landscapes featured in Jules Verne's "Journey to the Centre of the Earth." The route includes waterfalls, lakes, rivers, basalt cliffs, small fishing villages, and black sand beaches.
We will visit Ytri Tunga Beach to see a seal colony (most visible in summer) and enjoy a home-cooked lunch at Lýsuhóll farm, which also houses Icelandic horses.
In the afternoon, we will explore the black church of Buðir, drive along the coastline, and see the towns of Arnarstapi and Hellnar, along with Djúpalónssandur, a scenic black beach with shipwreck history from 1948.
After visiting the Saxhóll crater, we will proceed to Kirkjufell and its waterfall, known for being the most photographed mountain in Iceland and a filming site for "Game of Thrones." Nearby are the villages Grunðarfjorður and Ólafsvík, noted for their wildlife.
The final stop will be at Leynifoss, or "Sheep Waterfall," where we will view Selvallavatn Lake and the adjacent lava field. The tour concludes with a return to Reykjavik, arriving around 8 pm.
