The Snæfellsjökull National Park is renowned for its landscapes. This day trip from Reykjavik includes black sand beaches, villages, and Kirkjufell mountain.
Description
Pickup is at 9 am from your chosen meeting point in Reykjavik. The journey takes you across the Snaefellsnes peninsula to the Snæfellsjökull glacier, located on an active stratovolcano visible from the capital.
During the trip, enjoy landscapes featured in Jules Verne's "Journey to the Centre of the Earth", including waterfalls, lakes, rivers, basalt cliffs, fishing villages, and black sand beaches.
Next, visit Ytri Tunga Beach to see a seal colony (most visible in summer) and have a home-cooked lunch at Lýsuhóll farm, which also includes a visit to the stables to view Icelandic horses.
In the afternoon, see the black church of Buðir, and explore the rural town of Arnarstapi, fishing village Hellnar, and Djúpalónssandur, famous for its shipwreck history.
Visit the Saxhóll crater before proceeding to Kirkjufell, one of the most photographed mountains and a "Game of Thrones" filming location. Nearby are villages Grunðarfjorður and Ólafsvík.
The final stop is at Leynifoss, or the "Sheep Waterfall," near Selvallavatn Lake and a large lava field, before returning to Reykjavik by around 8 pm.
