Why Visit the Palace of the Grand Master of the Knights of Rhodes?
The Grand Master's Palace is a historical testimony to the medieval period and the influence of the Knights of St. John on Rhodes. It was constructed at the end of the 7th century and transformed into a grand palace in the early 14th century. It served as the residence of the Grand Master until the arrival of the Ottomans in 1522. The palace was designed as a fortress inside a castle.
The tour includes halls decorated with mosaics, frescoes and period furniture. Key areas include the reception rooms, the knights' quarters, and a large courtyard, all restored in the 1930s. The palace also houses a museum with collections of artefacts, weapons and works of art.
