Description

At our agreed meeting point, our exploration of Soviet-era Riga will begin. As we traverse the city's streets, we will gain insights into its most challenging chapters of history.

While moving through the picturesque streets, we'll take a moment to appreciate the renowned Academy of Sciences, often referred to as Stalin's birthday cake in the past. We will learn about the compelling history that led to this nickname.

Our journey takes us to the Museum of the Occupation of Latvia, where we will investigate the clashes between the Germans and Russians that transformed Riga into a site of fierce conflict during World War II. Unearth the lesser-known aspects of this tumultuous time.

A visit to the monument in Laukums Square will allow us to honor the Latvian Fusiliers and their contributions during the First World War. We will discuss the debates surrounding this memorial and its ties to the Soviet past.

Throughout our tour, we will encounter key historical sites, including the Monument to the Deportation, the Cathedral of the Nativity of Riga, the Parliament building, and the Memorial of the Barricades.
