Atillo Lagons Day Trip
Experience a stunning and exceptional location in the Andes with our Atillo Lagons Day Trip. Departing from Riobamba, we will navigate through a breathtaking area enveloped in mist and rich with vibrant greenery.
Your adventure begins when we collect you from your accommodation in Riobamba at 8 am, embarking towards the Atillo Lagoons, which are nestled within the confines of Sangay National Park.
As we travel, we will pass through charming rural Indigenous communities before reaching our first viewpoint, where the stunning Cuyo, Colay, and Atillo Lakes unfold before our eyes. A gentle stroll will take us to Negra Lagoon, an aquifer known for its striking black waters, which holds a mysterious Puruhae legend.
Following this, we will embark on a brief walk to explore the local flora. During this segment, we'll engage in discussions about native plants such as lupinus, chocho de páramo, valeriana, and flor de páramo. Additionally, the excursion offers the chance to observe some migratory cuvivis birds.
Feeling hungry? Our next destination will feature a traditional meal, showcasing grilled trout paired with a fresh salad containing vegetables, cooked corn, and a savory cheese sauce.
Post-lunch, we’ll venture to the Chalán ravine, where we will observe the footprints of Pleistocene mastodons dating back 40,000 years. Quite an astonishing sight!
Finally, we will return to Riobamba, where we aim to have you back at your hotel by 5 pm. Until next time!
