Hiking the Chimborazo Volcano

Enjoy an exceptional hike while seeing the closest terrestrial point to the sun with this Chimborazo volcano hike from Riobamba, a magical excursion!

  • 7 - 8 hours

This hiking journey through the Chimborazo volcano reserve invites you to traverse historic valleys and witness the closest point on Earth to the sun, an opportunity for exploration that is truly remarkable!

Description

At the designated time, we will collect you from your accommodation in Riobamba and proceed towards the La Chorrera canyon, marking the beginning of our 15-km trek within the Chimborazo volcano reserve.

During our hike, we'll discover a variety of endemic flora and, with a bit of luck, we may spot charming vicuñas. Our path will take us past the initial Carrel refuge, and after a distance of 1.5 km, we will reach the Whymper refuge.

Continuing along the trail, we'll arrive at the Cóndor Cocha lagoon, perched at 5,100 meters above sea level. From there, we'll make our way back down to La Chorrera Canyon for a visit to the Chimborazo viewpoint, where breathtaking vistas await you! At this final stop, we will provide a tasty snack to help rejuvenate you.

Our adventure concludes as we return to Riobamba, with an estimated duration of 7-8 hours for the entire experience.
